De-zincification

De-zincification

This is one of the least desired situations a Plumber can find theirselves in.

The Hot Water Cylinder (HWC) was leaking from the inner casing and had to be replaced. Whilst making the connections to drain the HWC, the brass thread around the isolation valve separated from the connection. In the right environment the zinc content is eventually removed from the brass making it porous and brittle. In this case quite severely. There were two other connections on the same system that had to be replaced due to de-zincification. Unfortunately, this connection I had to wait for the HWC to fully drain, before the leak stopped, at this point it was more containment than control.

After the replacement of the new Cylinder not only was the customer happy with the installation but also the price. Meeting your plumbing needs.
